Edwin Birch
Edwin Birch is the Executive Director of Community Relations and Government Affairs for Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS). He stepped into this new role on July 1, 2025, after leading the district's Communications and Marketing team.
Mr. Birch is an accomplished communications and public relations professional with more than 25 years of experience. He takes pride in telling the district's stories and advancing its mission, vision, and strategic priorities across a range of platforms.
Before joining KCKPS, Mr. Birch served as the Public Information Officer for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas (UG) from 2008 to 2019. In that role, he led media relations, social media, web communications, event planning, and public announcements for major economic development projects. He also led the upgrade of the government's local TV channel, UGTV.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Birch served as Director of Public Relations for the Kansas City, Missouri, School District. Under his leadership, the department received several awards from the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) for excellence in website design, publications, and the district newspaper.
At KCKPS, Mr. Birch and his team have earned numerous communications awards from National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) and the Kansas School Public Relations Association (KanSPRA) over the past five years.
A native of Kansas City, Kansas, Mr. Birch began his career in television news, working as an executive producer at KMBC-TV 9 and Metro Sports at Time Warner Cable, and as an assignment editor at WDAF-TV 4 while attending college.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Kansas.
