Dr. Anna Stubblefield

Dr. Anna Stubblefield became the 22nd Superintendent of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) on July 1, 2021. A proven and focused leader, she is committed to building strong leadership teams, expanding community outreach, and fostering partnerships that support academic achievement.
Taking the helm during a pivotal moment following a full year of online learning, Dr. Stubblefield immediately established a renewed sense of purpose for the district. She has emphasized collaboration, consistent performance monitoring, and active stakeholder engagement through Listening and Learning sessions and partnerships with research institutions. Under her leadership, KCKPS is pursuing its vision to become one of the nation’s top urban school districts by Inspiring Excellence: Every Grownup, Every Child, Every Day.
Prior to joining KCKPS, Dr. Stubblefield served in Lawrence Public Schools for 13 years, including roles as Deputy Superintendent, Interim Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Human Resources, and middle school principal. She began her career as a special education teacher and coach in the Center School District before moving into school leadership roles in Blue Valley Schools. She has also taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Kansas, St. Mary’s, and Baker University.
Dr. Stubblefield is a graduate of the University of Kansas, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and two Master’s degrees in Special Education and Teaching & Leadership. She also holds an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Saint Louis University. In 2018, she furthered her leadership development through the Women in Education Leadership program at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education.
She is married to David, and together they are proud parents of three sons.
