Theresa Reyes-Cummings is a distinguished nonprofit and public administration leader whose 35-year career has transformed mental health services, philanthropy, and public-sector collaboration throughout the Kansas City region. A proud graduate of J.C. Harmon High School, Theresa was raised in Kansas City, Kansas' Rosedale and Argentine neighborhoods, experiences that inspired her lifelong commitment to strengthening communities and expanding access to services for vulnerable populations.
A dedicated lifelong learner, despite her high school challenges, Theresa earned a Bachelor's Degree and Paralegal Certification from Pittsburg State University, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas, and a Master's Certificate in Health Care Administration from MidAmerica Nazarene University. Her educational achievements reflect the determination and perseverance that have defined her career.
As Executive Director of the Jackson County Community Mental Health Fund, Theresa oversees the investment of approximately $16 million annually in behavioral health and social service programs delivered by more than 40 nonprofit organizations. Her leadership has helped advance innovative, data-driven approaches to community mental health, including the development of the Fund's Value-Based Performance Initiative, which measures and demonstrates the impact of community investments on the lives of individuals and families.
A nationally credentialed Grant Professional (GPC), Theresa is recognized for her expertise in strategic leadership, grants management, finance, advocacy, and community partnerships. Throughout her career, she has championed collaboration among nonprofit, behavioral healthcare, philanthropic, and governmental organizations to address complex social challenges and improve systems of care.
Theresa's service on local and national boards, combined with her unwavering commitment to public service, has made her a trusted leader and advocate for community well-being.
