Kenneth Lawrie Jr., a proud 1996 graduate of Wyandotte High School, is a coach, mentor, and community leader whose life’s work centers on empowering youth through sports, education, and personal development. A Kansas City, Kansas native, his journey from student-athlete to influential educator reflects his belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Kenneth first made his mark on the football fields and tracks of Wyandotte County, earning a college scholarship and later competing in semi-professional and arena football for 12 years. His athletic career instilled in him the values of grit, discipline, and teamwork—qualities that continue to shape his leadership today.
Currently, Kenneth serves as a Recovery Monitor for Kansas City Kansas Public Schools, where he supports students with behavioral and emotional challenges. His role focuses on intervention, mentorship, and equipping students with the resilience needed to thrive in school and beyond. During his time at Northwest Middle School, his impact was recognized with an Employee of the Month award from the Board of Education.
In addition to his district role, Kenneth is the head football coach at Eisenhower Middle School and also coaches wrestling, basketball, and track. Known for his motivational leadership, he uses athletics as a platform to teach life skills, build character, and provide mentorship—particularly for students in need of positive male role models.
Kenneth’s commitment to youth extends beyond the classroom and the field. He is co-founder of TEAM 21 LLC, an organization he launched with his wife, Dr. JaKyta Lawrie, to support student-athletes and families through athletic training, academic coaching, and holistic family services. He is also the owner of Sports Recovery Xpress (SRX), a mobile recovery service that helps athletes maintain peak performance at local sporting events.
In 2024, Kenneth published The Investment: Cheat Sheets for Developing a College Athlete, a practical and empowering guide designed to help families navigate the challenges of collegiate athletics.
More than a coach, Kenneth is a trusted mentor, servant leader, and advocate for young people. His unwavering dedication to education, mentorship, and community makes him a true asset to KCKPS and a shining example of giving back to the next generation.
