Aaron Moore

Aaron R. Moore, a distinguished graduate of Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in the Kansas City, KS school district, has charted an impressive career path that integrates technical expertise, community engagement, and leadership. His journey from his early education in the Kansas City, KS school district to his current professional achievements highlights his dedication to excellence and his commitment to serving his community. 

Aaron's connection to the Kansas City community is deeply rooted. From birth, he has attended Eighth Street Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS, where his family has been longstanding members. At Eighth Street Baptist Church, Aaron serves as an usher and leads the young adult ministry, demonstrating his commitment to community service and spiritual leadership. 

Aaron’s passion for music began early, as he studied percussion from the age of 9 to 18 under the guidance of Leon Brady, a well-known jazz musician throughout the Kansas City Metro area. Leon Brady, who also taught at Sumner High School and within the Kansas City, KS school district, significantly influenced Aaron’s musical development and contributed to his appreciation for the arts. 

After graduating from Sumner Academy, Aaron pursued a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Kansas State University. His involvement with the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) began early, progressing from NSBE Jr. to Collegiate roles at Kansas State. Now, as the 2024-2025 President of the NSBE Kansas City Professionals Chapter, Aaron is focused on advancing the organization’s mission by fostering professional development and inspiring future leaders in STEM fields. His volunteer work with NSBE has included contributions to Sumner Academy, reflecting his ongoing commitment to his alma mater.

In his current role as a Project Engineer for the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU), Aaron is responsible for designing and managing the construction of water mains, reviewing development projects as part of the Development Review Committee (DRC), and overseeing the design and maintenance of water infrastructure across the BPU service area. His work is essential in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of water distribution systems that serve the Kansas City community. 

Aaron is also actively involved in community service. He serves on the Economic Redevelopment Advisory Committee for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, KS, focusing on economic redevelopment initiatives specifically for the area east of I-635. His responsibilities include reviewing development proposals, providing strategic recommendations, and collaborating with local stakeholders to support sustainable growth and revitalization efforts. 

In addition to his professional and civic roles, Aaron is a dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he serves on the Guide Right Committee. In this capacity, he mentors young men, helping them develop their leadership skills and reach their full potential. This role underscores his commitment to nurturing future leaders and contributing to the community.

Aaron’s musical talents are showcased through his role with the Kansas City Chiefs Drumline. As a performer, he delivers high-energy musical entertainment to over 77,000 fans at Arrowhead Stadium, enhancing the game-day experience. His involvement extends beyond the stadium, as the drumline also performs at various community events throughout the Kansas City area. Notably, Aaron has performed at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parades and at the most recent Super Bowl in Las Vegas, highlighting his role in celebrating the team's successes on a grand stage.

Outside of his professional commitments, Aaron has returned to Sumner Academy to assist the school's marching band, further demonstrating his dedication to supporting the next generation of students and musicians. Currently, Aaron is pursuing a Master of Science in Engineering Management at the University of Kansas, with an expected graduation date of December 2025. 

Aaron Moore’s career is a testament to his exceptional leadership, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment to community service. From his beginnings within the Kansas City, KS school district to his current roles in engineering and community engagement, Aaron continues to make a significant impact in Kansas City and beyond.
